Yandex News RSS: Validate a Publisher Feed Before Submission
Validate Yandex news RSS access, XML, article parity, full text, categories, authors, and media groups before submission in Webmaster.
Direct answer: Validate a Yandex news RSS feed as a structured publication artifact before submitting it in Webmaster. Check ownership, crawl access, article URLs, titles, full text, dates, categories, authors and media groups. A valid feed supports submission; it does not guarantee inclusion, ranking or traffic.
Yandex’s format is its own publisher workflow. Do not copy its fields into a Google News sitemap or assume that one engine’s acceptance validates another engine’s requirements.
Verify site and feed access
Add the site to Yandex Webmaster and verify ownership, or obtain the required owner access. Place the feed on the site or an appropriate subdomain and make sure the directory is not blocked from Yandex bots.
Fetch the feed without a logged-in session and record status, content type, final URL, redirects, compression, encoding and response time. Parse it as XML. A feed that looks correct in a browser can still contain invalid entities, duplicate elements, a broken namespace or truncated content.
| Layer | Check | Failure example |
|---|---|---|
| Access | Public 200 response | Login, block or redirect loop |
| XML | Well-formed namespaces | Unescaped character |
| Item | Unique article and required fields | Missing full text or date |
| Media | Reachable file and thumbnail | Blocked or undersized preview |
Map feed items to visible articles
For every item, compare the feed URL, title, publication date, section, author, summary and full text with the canonical article. The feed should not publish claims, names or media that are absent from the reader-visible page.
Yandex documents yandex:full-text and permits content:encoded to replace it. Choose one controlled source in the publishing system so the two do not drift. Preserve paragraph order and remove scripts, controls and unrelated template content.
Use the original publication section as the category. The documented genre values distinguish short messages, longer messages, articles and interviews. Do not label every item as an article merely to create a uniform feed.
Check images, video and captions
Media groups can contain media content, a player and thumbnails under Yandex’s documented structure. Yandex says the group must include a thumbnail and at least one media content or player element. When a video uses a thumbnail, the documentation gives a minimum 800 by 400 pixels for indexing.
Verify that media URLs are public, stable, HTTPS, correctly typed and consistent with the article. Captions and author fields should identify the real material without keyword stuffing. Do not fabricate a thumbnail from an unrelated image to satisfy a field.
Record rights and expiration. A technically valid feed can expose licensed media after the publication no longer has permission to distribute it.
Submit and monitor without promises
- Save a validation report and sample item before submission.
- Add the feed through the documented Yandex Webmaster workflow.
- Record submission time, owner, response and any processing error.
- Monitor crawl access, feed freshness and article parity.
- Fix the source template rather than patching repeated errors by hand.
- Review fields when Yandex changes the specification.
Keep ordinary crawling, news-feed processing, result appearance and traffic as separate outcomes. A feed can be fetched without its articles receiving a visible news treatment.
Use the technical launch checklist for response and canonical checks and the publishing guide for source, author and maintenance controls.
